Wide Receiver
WR1: Josh Palmer, Ramel Keyton
WR2: Deangelo Gibbs, Cedric Tillman
WR3: Brandon Johnson or Ramel Keyton, Velus Jones Jr.
After losing three seniors, two of which were the Vols’ main weapons in the passing game, Tennessee’s wide receiver room is wide open this spring. Josh Palmer figures to likely be the lead candidate for the No. 1 spot, but that’s not exactly guaranteed, either.
Deangelo Gibbs seemed to impress coaches on the scout team last fall, but will that translate against better competition? If it does, he could be a starter. Brandon Johnson redshirted last season and returns as a fifth-year senior, and he could be in line for a starting role. But rising sophomore Ramel Keyton will give him all he can handle in a battle for playing time.
Grad transfer Velus Jones Jr. figures to have a big impact on special teams, but can he find a way to work himself into the rotation at wideout? And can Cedric Tillman carve out a role before four young freshmen receivers join the team over the summer?
