Saturday night’s game between Tennessee and Missouri will be a match-up of two teams going in the opposite direction.
The Vols (5-5, 3-3 SEC) have won three-straight games and four of their last five contests. Missouri (5-5, 2-4 SEC), meanwhile, has lost four-straight contests and has seen their offense disappear in the process.
The Tigers have scored a grand total of one touchdown in their last 12 quarters of play, and the offense as a whole has managed a meager 13 points in their last three games. Missouri is averaging just 259 yards of offense over their last four games and only 4.06 yards per play. Their losses in the last four games include games against Vanderbilt (21-14), Kentucky (29-7), Georgia (27-0), and Florida (23-6).
Tennessee, on the other hand, has had a lot of success on defense lately.
The Vols’ defense has given up just 21 total points to opposing offenses in the second half over the last five games. UT’s defense is only allowing 4.63 yards a play to opposing offenses in their last four wins. Tennessee’s offense, meanwhile, is averaging 5.59 yards per play in the last five games.
Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt said earlier this week that he has a starting quarterback in mind for Saturday’s game, but he’s holding off on announcing who it will be until game time. Missouri is expected to start Kelly Bryant, though Bryant still isn’t 100 percent after suffering a leg injury a few weeks ago.
Since joining the SEC, Missouri has had ease beating the Vols. The Tigers are 5-2 against UT since becoming a member of the SEC in 2012, and they’ve won two-straight games against Tennessee. Both of those games had the same final score, 50-17.
The Vols were 5-5 and a win away from bowl eligibility last year when they faced Missouri. The Tigers demolished Tennessee, however, and the Vols would end up losing the following week to Vanderbilt in blowout fashion, too.
This year, Tennessee will be looking to get revenge.
