Running Backs
Nathanael: C
If not for Ty Chandler’s 31-yard scamper, Tennessee would’ve had less than 100 yards rushing against UAB. That one carry was the only significant run the Vols’ group of backs had in the game. Tim Jordan had an eight-yard rush but finished with just 19 yards on six carries, and Eric Gray totaled eight yards on eight carries. He did, however, catch a touchdown for his first career score. All in all, though, the Vols’ running backs were average at best. They weren’t helped by the offensive line, either.

Tennessee’s running game wasn’t necessarily the most efficient, but I thought it was mostly because the offensive line played the worst it’s played in a couple of weeks. The Vols only managed to rush for 3.1 yards per carry, but Ty Chandler was still able to rush for 85 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries. Chandler averaged 5.3 yards per rush. Even freshman Eric Gray got in on the action, scoring his first career touchdown on a 13-yard reception from Guarantano.
