Running Backs
Nathanael: C
Ty Chandler got the job done on several occasions, but overall the Vols struggled to really make a huge impact on the ground. Chandler was the workhorse among the backs, totaling 78 yards and averaging nearly five yards a carry. But both Tim Jordan and Eric Gray had a hard time gaining more than a couple yards on any of their carries. All in all, the running backs didn’t do poorly, but they were overshadowed by Tennessee’s passing attack, and they weren’t asked to carry most of the burden like they were two weeks ago.

Tennessee didn’t run the football as much as we anticipated in large part because the quarterbacks were playing so well. Ty Chandler was the leading rusher with 78 yards on 16 carries, but most impressively, he averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Tim Jordan and Eric Gray didn’t have great days, but the running game was still good enough to complement the Vols passing attack against the Gamecocks.
