If not for the play from Guarantano and some costly penalties (the ones UT actually earned, not all the ones they were called for), this grade would be higher, and the final score would also be different. As it was, though, the Vols still lost by 22 points to Alabama. That’s not to say there aren’t a lot of positives to take away from the game, though, because there are.

Ben: B-

At the end of the day, Tennessee lost by three touchdowns to Alabama, arguably the Vols’ biggest rival. But had Brian Maurer played the whole game and Darrell Taylor wasn’t flagged for playing football, Tennessee has a chance to win late in the fourth quarter on the road against the No. 1 team in the country. You can’t ask for much more considering the current state of Tennessee football.
