Tennessee had Alabama fans sweating in the fourth quarter. Then, all the Vols’ hopes came crashing down thanks to a fumble at the goal line that was returned 100 yards the opposite direction for the decisive touchdown.
The Vols gave No. 1 Alabama their money’s worth on Saturday night, but the Tide prevailed 35-13 in Tuscaloosa. Both teams lost their starting quarterbacks to injury in the first half, and both offenses were bogged down afterwards because of that.
In the end, though, Alabama proved to be deeper and more talented, and they eventually prevailed (with a little help).
