For the first time this season, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt got to discuss his team’s effort after a win over an SEC opponent.

The Vols (2-4, 1-2 SEC) defeated Mississippi State (3-3, 1-2 SEC) by a score of 20-10 in Neyland Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Tennessee led the entire game, but their lead was never greater than 10 points at any point in the game.

Tennessee’s defense was the story of the game, as they held the SEC’s leading rusher, Kylin Hill, to just 13 rushing yards on 11 carries. The Vols tallied seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss, and they forced three Bulldog turnovers.

Offensively, freshman Brian Maurer exited in the second quarter after sustaining a concussion. Redshirt junior Jarrett Guarantano came on in relief and managed the offense well, relying on his running backs to carry the game while he completed six of his seven passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. The Vols ran for 190 yards as a team and averaged over four yards a carry.

After the game, Jeremy Pruitt met with the media to discuss the Vols’ win, update the status of some injured players, and much more.
