Tennessee finally picked up their first SEC win of the 2019 season on Saturday, and UT’s players had plenty to say about the victory.
The Vols (2-4, 1-2 SEC) used a strong defensive effort to shut down Mississippi State’s (3-3, 1-2 SEC) offense on Saturday, coming away with a 20-10 victory over the Bulldogs. Tennessee led the entire game, but the contest was close throughout.
Even after starting quarterback Brian Maurer threw two end zone interceptions and left the game in the second quarter after sustaining a concussion, Tennessee was able to prevail. Redshirt junior Jarrett Guarantano managed the offense well, and the Vols used a run-heavy attack to get the win.
After the game, several of Tennessee’s players met with the media to discuss the Vols’ victory, the play of Guarantano and wide receiver Tyler Byrd, and much more.
