Given how good Georgia’s front seven is and how over-matched the Vols’ offensive line was in this game, I actually think Tennessee did a decent job running the ball. They just didn’t get to run very often because they trailed for a large part of the game. Ty Chandler ripped off a 16-yard run to get the game going, but he struggled after that to find a lot of holes. Tennessee did what they could to get yardage, and I was particularly impressed with what Tim Jordan was able to do. Both Chandler and Jordan averaged over five yards a carry, and Jordan had a 17-yard run himself. Eric Gray was surprisingly absent in this game, only totaling five carries and only gaining five yards on those touches.

Tennessee couldn’t get anything going on the ground against Georgia. Maybe it’s because the Dawgs are strong up front, but the Vols’ running backs managed to rush for just 100 yards. Tim Jordan rushed for 47 yards on nine carries, and Ty Chandler tallied 38 yards on seven carries. Jordan averaged 5.2 yards per carry, while Chandler averaged 5.4 yards a pop. Eric Gray only had five rushing yards on the night.
