Tennessee’s play calling did little to cash in on the Vols’ potential at running back in this game, but even when called upon, I didn’t think UT’s backs had a great day. The best I remember seeing Tennessee’s rushing attack on Saturday was when Brian Maurer came in to start the second half. Eric Gray got two carries to start that drive and looked good. Then, inexplicably, he never got another touch that drive. When you factor in Gray’s fumble and Chandler, again, not being able to pull down a screen pass, and it wasn’t a good day for this group, either.

The running backs had their worst game of the year on Saturday. While hampered by Tennessee’s poor play up front, the group rushed for just 88 yards on 27 carries. Ty Chandler rushed for 34 yards, Eric Gray rushed for 27 yards, and Tim Jordan rushed for 16 yards. Chandler’s dropped pass on a swing pass that resulted in a Florida fumble recovery and Gray’s fumble put Tennessee’s defense in bad spots.

  1. I have been a vol fan since I was 5 or 6 years old and am approaching 70. This MAY be the worst I have ever seen a Tennessee team look.

  2. I totally agree that at some point the players have to make the plays that are there in front of them. If we just make the simple plays and execute when the scoring opportunities were there, we go in to the 4th quarter with a chance to win this game.
