Position Grades: No. 9 Florida 34, Tennessee 3

I don’t know how to properly grade Saturday’s game, so I’m just giving it an “F” because it feels like a failure of an afternoon to me. We all could’ve spent our day doing something better with our lives, but instead we wasted three hours watching another bad football game. Tennessee has now turned it over 10 times over the last eight quarters they’ve played against Florida, and all but one of the four turnovers the Vols had on Saturday happened because of poor decisions being made.

Whether it was boneheaded penalties, horrible execution, or just downright blown plays, Saturday was just the latest in what’s become a long line of disastrous losses for UT over the last three years.

Tennessee would have had a chance to make some plays late in the second half, but quarterback play in the second quarter doomed the Vols. In hindsight, Jauan Jennings’ dropped touchdown pass, Jarrett Guarantano missing a wide-open Dominick Wood-Anderson, Guarantano’s miscommunication with Marquez Callaway, and Ty Chandler’s dropped pass that resulted in a Florida fumble recovery cost UT that chance to make a play late. Now, the Vols sit 1-3 on the season with two of their next three games coming against No. 3 Georgia and No. 2 Alabama. It’s only going to get worse.

Plus, Tennessee has now lost to Florida in 14 of the last 15 meetings. Yuck.

  1. I have been a vol fan since I was 5 or 6 years old and am approaching 70. This MAY be the worst I have ever seen a Tennessee team look.

  2. I totally agree that at some point the players have to make the plays that are there in front of them. If we just make the simple plays and execute when the scoring opportunities were there, we go in to the 4th quarter with a chance to win this game.
