The Vols didn’t need a great game plan to beat UTC, but the coaches did a great job getting young players in the game early and playing them often on Saturday. That, along with getting the win, was the main objective for Saturday’s game, and Tennessee did just that. Also, good on Jim Chaney for relying heavily on the run after Guarantano’s misfire to start the game, and good on him to help Guarantano get into a rhythm after that to give him more confidence.

Tennessee’s coaches are naturally going to look good against an FCS opponent, so the thing I was keeping a watchful eye on was personnel decisions. It was critical that the young quarterbacks played and that several young players on defense received snaps. They were afforded the luxury of doing just that thanks to the big early lead.
