Tennessee found yet another painful way to lose a football game on Saturday night when they fell 29-26 in double-overtime to BYU. The Vols led 13-3 at halftime and were up 16-13 with less than half a minute to go in the game. Despite those leads, however, the Vols still couldn’t pull out a win.

BYU quarterback Zach Wilson found Micah Simon on a route near the sideline with about 17 seconds to go in the game, and Tennessee’s Alontae Taylor was nowhere near him. Add in a whiffed tackle by Theo Jackson, and Simon sprinted down the field for a 64-yard gain that set up a game-tying 33-yard field goal for the Cougars.

In overtime, BYU’s offense couldn’t be stopped.

The Cougars needed just three plays to score a touchdown in the first overtime, and Tennessee responded with their own touchdown on their possession. In the second overtime, the Vols had to settle for a field goal, but BYU again scored a touchdown on just three plays, giving them the victory.

After the game, Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt had a lot to say about his team’s performance. If you missed everything he said live, you can catch the full replay here:
