The only non-freshman on this list, senior defensive back Baylen Buchanan’s health concerns will likely keep him out the entirety of the 2019 season.
Buchanan is suffering from narrowing in his spine, and it doesn’t look like there’s any immediate fix to his ailment. Jeremy Pruitt has hinted a couple different times now that Buchanan is in line to redshirt this season. He mentioned in his press conference where he revealed Buchanan’s health issue that the senior has a redshirt available to use.
If Buchanan can play football again, look for him to use 2019 as a redshirt year to come back ready to play in 2020. But if worse comes to worse, his football career could be over.
Buchanan has played in 31 games in his UT career, totaling 73 tackles, three tackles for loss, five passes defended, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
