Offensive Line
OT: Marcus Tatum, Wanya Morris, Jahmir Johnson, Darnell Wright
OG: Trey Smith, Darnell Wright, Jerome Carvin, K’Rojhn Calbert, Ryan Johnson
C: Brandon Kennedy, Ryan Johnson
Tennessee has tried a multitude of combinations along the offensive line this fall, and it stands to reason that the starting five that trots out on the field against Georgia State to start the 2019 season won’t be the same starting five once the Vols are in the thick of their SEC schedule.
As it stands right now, there are still several questions left to answer about the offensive line. The biggest question mark facing the unit is the heath of Trey Smith. If he’s cleared by doctors to play this season, he’ll be a starter at guard for the Vols almost definitely. If he can’t play, though, that leaves some things up in the air. Ryan Johnson could be a starter in the interior, and both Jerome Carvin and K’Rojhn Calbert are likely starting options if Smith can’t go. Darnell Wright has practiced a lot at guard and could also start out there before moving to tackle.
Speaking of tackle, Marcus Tatum looks to have nailed down a starting spot heading into the start of the season, and true freshman Wanya Morris will likely man the other tackle position. If he doesn’t, though, then Jahmir Johnson could start ahead of him. Darnell Wright’s progress as the season goes along will be fun to monitor, and he could push Tatum if he doesn’t stay along the interior of the line.
Right now, the only real given of the group is Brandon Kennedy starting at center. Tatum looks to be pretty solidly fixed in right now, too, but there’s still just a lot to figure out with this group.
