Safety
S1: Nigel Warrior, Jaylen McCollough
S2: Trevon Flowers, Shawn Shamburger
STAR: Shawn Shamburger, Theo Jackson
Not much changed with the safety group in fall camp. Both Nigel Warrior and Trevon Flowers solidified their spots as the two main starting safeties, and Shawn Shamburger nailed down a spot as the main STAR player as well as a likely backup safety role.
The depth, however, is a bit of a concern.
In an ideal world, the Vols won’t be dealt any injuries in the secondary this year and won’t have to worry about the depth beyond their starters for the most part. And while there are some promising players behind Warrior and Flowers, it doesn’t look like the depth is quite where it needs to be at safety.
Theo Jackson could play STAR if Shamburger isn’t, and Warrior and Jaylen McCollough are capable, as well. A name to watch as the season progresses at safety is true freshman Tyus Fields.
