Vols’ 2019 Post-Fall Camp Depth Chart Projections

Quarterback

Starter: Jarrett Guarantano
Backup:
JT Shrout, Brian Maurer

As of right now, it looks like redshirt freshman JT Shrout will be Jarrett Guarantano’s backup at the quarterback spot. But that could easily change as the weeks move on.

True freshman Brian Maurer has flashed some ability this fall, and enrolling early back in the spring was a big positive for him. But he, along with Shrout, has struggled with consistency, and that’s kept him from leapfrogging Shrout for the second string spot.

Neither Shrout nor Maurer have been particularly consistent this fall, but that’s to be expected from young signal callers. Tennessee’s offense needs a healthy Guarantano to reach its full potential in 2019, and Tennessee’s coaching staff will be hoping and praying that Guarantano remains upright a lot more often this season than last year.
