Dominick Wood-Anderson, TE
Last year, Vol fans expected a lot from Dominick Wood-Anderson, the former No. 1 JUCO tight end in the 2018 class. He came in looking the part of an SEC tight end, and he was clearly the Vols’ best tight end as soon as he put on the pads in practice.
Unfortunately, due to a number of reasons both in and out of his control, Wood-Anderson never really got a chance to shine in his first year at UT.
Wood-Anderson started the season on a solid note, catching a touchdown pass in the Vols’ first game of the season against West Virginia. But he would go on to only catch one more touchdown all season, and it took him several more weeks to do so. He hauled in four receptions for 18 yards and a score against Kentucky, nine weeks after his first touchdown with Tennessee.
All in all, Wood-Anderson finished his debut season with Tennessee with just 17 receptions for 140 yards and those two touchdowns.
This year, though, could prove to be the type of season to thrust Wood-Anderson onto the NFL’s radar.
Offensive coordinator Jim Chaney has a history of utilizing tight ends effectively in his offense. Chaney’s offensive system helped produce NFL talents such as Luke Stocker and Mychal Rivera at Tennessee, Hunter Henry at Arkansas, and Isaac Nauta at Georgia.
Assuming the Vols’ offensive line doesn’t need quite as much help with pass blocking and that Wood-Anderson himself has developed even better route-running skills and a deeper knowledge of collegiate offenses, the senior tight end could play his way into a mid-round NFL Draft selection.
