Center
N’Faly Dante – No. 11 overall, No. 2 C
Walker Kessler – No. 15 overall, No. 4 C
Dylan Cardwell – No. 147 overall, No. 23 C
Barring a surprise, Tennessee may not end up getting a true “center” prospect in the 2020 class. The likeliest of this group would be Dyland Cardwell, however.
Cardwell was going to play for the famed Oak Hill Academy for his senior season, but now he’s slated to join elite guard Sharife Cooper at McEachem High School, and he’s started to get more attention from some bigger programs, such as Duke. Along with Tennessee, he has interest from Vanderbilt, UConn, NC State, Cincinnati, and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-10 prospect has already taken an official visit to UT’s campus, and he’s a big fan of Tennessee’s culture.
Cardwell is likely holding off on signing till the spring, so Tennessee could have a better idea of what their roster numbers would be like at that point. That could be better for Cardwell and give him some more options as well.
Aside from Cardwell and the aforementioned PJ Hall, Tennessee doesn’t seem to have much hope of adding a big man in the 2020 class.
N’Faly Dante is an interesting prospect to watch. He’s currently in the 2020 cycle, but there are lots of talks about him reclassifying to the 2019 class. Tennessee offered Dante several weeks ago, but he’s likely going to a blue blood if he doesn’t end up going to Oregon. Walker Kessler was higher on the Vols when it looked like he may reclassify to the 2019 class. Now that he’s sticking in the 2020 class, the Vols have seem to fallen out of favor some for Kessler. Tennessee will still pursue, but it doesn’t look like Kessler as as much interest now.
