10. Darin Turner, WR
Height/Weight: 6-foot-3, 210 pounds
Overall Ranking: 92nd
State Ranking: 5th
School: Memphis Central (Memphis)
If this list was based on just Tennessee’s interest in a recruit, then Darin Turner would be higher up than 10th. But it remains to be seen just how interested Turner is in the Vols.
Turner played mostly at QB for Memphis Central because that’s where he was needed, but he’ll actually be playing wide receiver in his senior season, and expectations are sky high for him. Turner recently decommitted from LSU, and his recruiting is a feeding frenzy now.
While he was committed to LSU, Tennessee was fighting an uphill battle to try and sway Turner. Now that he’s back on the market, the Vols have gotten their foot in the door with him. There’s a chance UT will get an official visit from him, too. Just like with the other Memphis prospects, David Johnson has been a big key with Turner.
Turner hasn’t had much of a chance to show on the field what he can do as a wide receiver (or maybe even at tight end if he keeps bulking up), but that will change this fall.
