The only five-star in the 2020 class in the state of Tennessee, Reggie Grimes is likely the Vols’ top target within state borders. Yes, he’s the top-rated prospect in the state of Tennessee, so it’s easy to put him at the top of this list. But that’s also the truth; Grimes is arguably No. 1 on the Vols’ board of in-state players, and they have the top team in the SEC as competition.
Grimes is an Alabama legacy because both his parents played sports there. The Tide are viewed as the leader for the five-star defensive end because of that and because of the relationships he has there. But if there’s going to be a team that could land him over Alabama, Tennessee appears to be the most likely.
Florida State is another team to watch in Grimes’ recruitment, but all in all it looks like it’s a two team race for the five-star. So what makes him so special?
Grimes ia a phenomenal athlete with the ideal frame and intangibles as a pass rusher. Grimes has been timed running around a 4.5-second 40-yard dash, and he can reportedly run a sub-12 second 100-meter dash.
There doesn’t appear to be a strong sense of a timeline for Grimes’ decision, but expect Alabama and Tennessee to duke it out until the very end.
