I was highly impressed by true freshman Jaylen McCollough, and I’m very excited to see him in the fall. Trevon Flowers also looked superb, totaling five tackles, a sack, and a tackle for loss. Nigel Warrior also made some good plays, and he got a sack as well. Theo Jackson surprised me some, too. The reason this unit doesn’t get a better grade is because they got beat a few times on deep balls, but that didn’t happen a ton to the starters and also has a lot to do with UT’s receivers being top notch.

The secondary had somewhat of a disappointing afternoon on Saturday outside of freshman Jaylen McCollough who recorded two interceptions. Jauan Jennings, Marquez Callaway, and Josh Palmer all had success with very little resistance. Alontae Taylor gave up two deep passes, and the backups didn’t perform all that well. Taylor will be fine though, as he also turned in some good reps. Taylor, McCollough, Bryce Thompson, and Trevon Flowers all looked good at times, but giving up over 400 yards passing as a group won’t result in a positive grade from me.
