Linebackers

This might’ve been the best I’ve seen Tennessee’s linebackers perform in a while. Granted, it’s a spring game, so I don’t know how much to take away from that, but the Vols’ corps of linebackers played exceptionally well. Shanon Reid has been one of the biggest surprises to me all spring, and he capped off an excellent month-plus of practices with a game-high 10 tackles and a pass breakup. Jordan Allen notched two sacks, Deandre Johnson and Kivon Bennett both got sacks, and Quavaris Crouch flashed a lot of play-making ability when he was on the field. They didn’t let Tennessee’s running backs rip off a run longer than 13 yards, and they did a great job of harassing the QBs.

The linebacker group produced four sacks on the afternoon and looked good throughout the game. They were constantly in the backfield getting after the quarterback and did a good job of filling their gaps against the run. As a result, the running backs failed to rip off a long run. Deandre Johnson and Kivon Bennett each produced a sack, and Jordan Allen picked up two sacks off the edge. Quavaris Crouch definitely looked the part.
