Running Backs
Nathanael: C+
Aside from some tough running from Jeremy Banks and some good spurts from Tim Jordan, there just wasn’t a lot I took away from this unit. If Banks has fixed his fumbling issues, then I really, really like what he brings to the backfield in the fall. In total, the three scholarship running backs who got time on Saturday finished with 22 carries for 94 yards. Banks was used a lot in the passing game as well, hauling in five catches for 21 yards.

The running backs didn’t show a whole lot but I thought it was in large part due to how vanilla the offense was. And as was the case last year, the offensive line did them no favors. When the O-line did open up a hole, Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan, and Jeremy Banks took advantage of it. Jordan rushed for 4.9 yards per carry while Chandler rushed for 4.6 yards. Banks once again flashed signs of why so many love him as he showed off his physical presence. If the O-line can open up some holes, I like the potential of Tennessee’s running back trio.
