Overall, I think Jarrett Guarantano showed a lot of improvement in a lot of areas. He wasn’t perfect by any means, but he made better reads, showed some improved pocket awareness, and even looked more mobile than he has at any point in his previous two years of playing. I thought Brian Maurer showed some flashes of potential, especially on his first full drive. But then he showed that inconsistency he’s had all spring and tossed two interceptions. JT Shrout was also inconsistent, and that’s been the big problem with both of those guys this spring. They looked really good when they were on, but they also made some bad throws. All in all, though, it was an encouraging day for the QBs.

Jarrett Guarantano had a solid afternoon, completing 19 of his 37 pass attempts for 198 yards and four touchdowns. Guarantano delivered some pretty passes most noticeably to Marquez Callaway, Josh Palmer, and Jauan Jennings. The redshirt junior got off to a slow start, but the up-tempo helped him find a groove.

As for the other two quarterbacks, I thought JT Shrout and Brian Maurer both flashed signs of their potential. They both throw a pretty ball, and it was on display Saturday night. Shrout was 10-of-19 for 138 yards and a touchdown while Maurer was 7-of-10 for 105 yards. Maurer did throw two interceptions, one of which was really bad when he threw back across his body over the middle of the field.
