Overall, I thought the game plan for the spring game was done well. Jim Chaney showed a lot of new formations the offense didn’t have last year, and Derrick Ansley and the defense dialed up a ton of blitzes to throw at both the first and second team offense. It’s hard to judge coaching on a team when they’re game planning against each other, but I thought both sides drew up some good things.

I’m not going to give the coaches a grade based off a spring game in which the offense and defense were as vanilla as it gets. To the point where Jarrett Guarantano and Daniel Bituli were laughing about how different it was in practice following the game. But I will give them a grade for the spring and to me that grade is an A. Tennessee may not be where it needs to be to get to Atlanta, but the Vols got better at every position this spring. Throw in the fact that Tennessee didn’t suffer any major injuries, and you can chalk the spring up as a success.
