Will Anyone Commit?
The final biggest storyline for Saturday’s Orange & White Game doesn’t actually have anything to do with the players on the field.
Tennessee is hosting a ton of talented prospects on Saturday, and there’s a chance the Vols could pick up a commitment or two before the day is done. Recruits like five-star lineman Justin Rogers, four-star offensive lineman Cooper Mays, four-star offensive tackle Tate Ratledge, four-star wide receiver Kris Abrams-Draine, and four-star linebacker BJ Ojulari will be in attendance for the game on Saturday and will take part in other festivities before the game.
Not only are those recruits in town, but USC transfer wide receiver Velus Jones will also be on campus.
The Vols currently have only five players committed to them in their 2020 class, and UT had gone months without a commitment until three-star running back Ebony Jackson gave them his pledge last Saturday. Tennessee has only added two commits to their 2020 class in 2019, and they also experienced a decommitment this year with three-star wide receiver Antonio Barber deciding to look elsewhere.
It’s definitely not time to worry about Tennessee’s 2020 class. It’s only April, and not having a ton of commitments at this point is fairly normal. But if the Vols can land at least one commitment from a highly-rated prospect on Saturday, it’ll grab the attention of other prospects and might cause a chain reaction. At the very least, it’ll give UT some positive momentum heading into the spring evaluation period here soon.
Tennessee’s coaches are in on a number of very talented prospects this recruiting cycle, and four-star quarterback Harrison Bailey has been a big peer recruiter for UT so far. It’ll be a nice sign for the future if one (or multiple) players decide to pull the trigger and announce a public commitment on Saturday.
