One of the top running backs in the 2020 recruiting cycle has picked up an offer from the Vols to go along with an already impressive list of offers.
MarShawn Lloyd is a five-star running back who plays for DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland. He tweeted out on Tuesday that he picked up an offer from Tennessee.

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Lloyd is the No. 29 overall player and No. 6 running back in the 2020 recruiting cycle. He’s the No. 3 player in the state of Maryland as well. Along with the offer from Tennessee, he holds offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Penn State, Ohio State, and many others.
The five-star has already taken visits to Clemson, Georgia, and South Carolina, and both the Tigers and bulldogs seem to be early favorites for him with Penn State also playing a big role in his recruitment. Tennessee’s coaching staff will likely try to get him to visit soon.

Though he’s listed at 5-foot-9, Lloyd is anything but a small scat back. He has a lot of power in his running, and he’s extremely hard to bring down.
Lloyd is quick on his feet, and he’s deceptively strong, too. He’s a versatile athlete who can perform as a dynamic running back and a pass catcher as well. He’s not afraid to lower his shoulder and bully his way forward for a few extra yards, but he’s also just as effective escaping the grasp of tacklers and evading them. He needs to improve his ball security, as he had a few fumbles his junior season. Otherwise, Lloyd is a legit elite talent and has the tools to be a star running back in college.
Lloyd’s school, DeMatha Catholic, played a brutal schedule this past season that included games against national powers such as St. Thomas Aquinas, Imhotep, and a Gonzaga squad that finished No. 18 in the USA Today Sports rankings of high school programs all across the country.
Against that Gonzaa team, Lloyd ran for 154 yards and four touchdowns in an overtime victory for DeMatha Catholic. He also scored two touchdowns against them when the two teams faced-off in a rematch in the playoffs.
The Vols signed just one running back in their 2019 class, adding four-star Memphis prospect Eric Gray to their roster. Tennessee will likely look to add two running backs in their 2020 class, and Lloyd will be a name to keep an eye on moving forward.
