The Vols missed on adding a premier defensive end in their 2019 class, and they’re going all out to try and add one in their 2020 class.

Tennessee is in on several strong-side and weak-side defensive end in the 2020 cycle. They haven’t gone after quite as many defensive tackles as of yet, but there’s also the possibility that one of the ends they eventually land could convert to tackle.

Right now, the Vols hold a commitment from JUCO defensive end Jordan Davis. But the Vols would likely prefer to add another two or three defensive linemen in this class to go along with him.

In-state target Reggie Grimes figures to be the top priority for the Vols along the defensive line, and another in-state prospect — Tyler Baron — will also be a big focus for UT in this class. Jay Hardy out of Chattanooga is blowing up on the recruiting trail right now, and he’ll be getting plenty of attention from the Vols as well.

There are two Myles Murphy’s in this cycle, and both play defensive end. The higher-rated of the two might be the harder pull for Tennessee, but both figure to be targets. Jacolbe Cowan and Vernon Broughton like the Vols, but they might also be tough gets.

Greg Hudgins, BJ Ojulari (who also plays with Harrison Bailey at Marietta), and JaQuari Wiggles figure to be a little bit easier to get for the Vols, and all three seem highly interested in Tennessee. Damarjhe Lewis, who is committed to Auburn, also likes the Vols and recently visited Knoxville.
