Redshirt junior tight end Eli Wolf put his name into the NCAA transfer portal earlier this month. Now, it appears one of the Vols’ biggest rivals is interested in adding him to their roster.
According to a report from Dawg Nation, the Georgia Bulldogs have extended a scholarship offer to Wolf to join the Bulldogs in the 2019 season. Wolf has one year of eligibility remaining, and it’s believed he’s a graduate transfer and can play immediately wherever he decides to go.
If Wolf elects to go to Georgia, he would join a Bulldog tight end room devoid of returning experience. Junior tight end Isaac Nauta declared early for the 2019 NFL Draft this offseason, and highly-touted freshman Luke Ford elected to transfer off the roster this offseason. Georgia only has rising senior Charlie Woerner and redshirt freshman John Fitzpatrick as healthy tight ends on the roster. Four-star early enrollee Ryland Goede suffered a knee injury in his senior season of high school and may not be ready for fall camp later this year.
In 40 career games for Georgia, Woerner has 25 catches for 298 yards. Fitzpatrick appeared in two games in 2018 before redshirting.
Wolf played in all 12 games for the Vols this past season and started seven contests. He caught his first touchdown pass of his collegiate career when he hauled in a five-yard score against South Carolina. He finished the season with five receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown in 2018.
The Minster, Ohio native joined the Vols as a walk-on prior to the 2015 season. He came to Tennessee to find opportunity and to play with his older brother, Ethan Wolf. He earned a scholarship during fall camp prior to the 2017 season, and he wound up playing in nine games and making his first career start for the Vols that season.
Wolf was one of Tennessee’s player representatives at SEC Media Days in 2018 during head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s first SEC Media Days appearance with the Vols.
The 6-foot-4, 236-pound tight end appeared in 27 games for Tennessee and caught nine passes for 86 yards and a touchdown.
