If there’s a Vol signee who should be most excited about Tennessee’s hiring of Jim Chaney as offensive coordinator, it should be Eric Gray. With how Chaney has used running backs the last few years both at Georgia and Arkansas, Gray has to be ecstatic about his future with UT.
Gray will join Ty Chandler, Tim Jordan, and Carlin Fils-aime as the only scholarship running backs on Tennessee’s roster this spring. Jeremy Banks is expected to go over to defense and train as a linebacker, leaving UT with four scholarship backs. Gray brings a play-making ability and dynamic athleticism that UT doesn’t have at the position currently, and he’ll use the spring to familiarize himself Tennessee’s offensive schemes and learn how to run and pass block more effectively.
