4. Offensive Line
Early Signees
Wanya Morris (6-foot-6, 312 lbs) – No. 13 overall, No. 3 OT
Jackson Lampley (6-foot-4, 300 lbs) – No. 247 overall, No. 15 OG
Melvin McBride (6-foot-3, 312 lbs) – No. 466 overall, No. 25 OG
Chris Akporoghene (6-foot-4, 294 lbs) – No. 837 overall, No. 69 OT
Tennessee did a really good job of addressing their biggest need in this 2019 class during the early signing period. The Vols definitely needed to add a lot of offensive linemen in this cycle, and they signed four quality prospects along the line last week.
Wanya Morris is the headliner of UT’s 2019 class right now, and he projects to be a Day 1 starter as a true freshman in 2019. The Vols also added two good interior linemen in Jackson Lampley and Melvin McBride, and Chris Akporoghene may be one of the more underrated players in this class.
Still, Tennessee could do with adding another offensive lineman (or maybe two) on the February signing day, and they’re in a very good spot with the top offensive tackle in the country.
Darnell Wright, a five-star offensive tackle who is rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2019 class, is considered a Vol lean. If Tennessee ends up signing him in this class, they could arguably haul in the best offensive line class in the 2019 cycle.
