5. Wide Receiver
Early Signees
Ramel Keyton (6-foot-3, 185 lbs) – No. 107 overall, No. 18 WR
Jerrod Means (6-foot-2, 212 lbs) – No. 1,845 overall, No. 216 WR
Tennessee signed two receivers in the early signing period, but they’re still targeting several wideouts who didn’t sign last week. The Vols’ coaching staff want to add another skill position player in February, and there aren’t really any unsigned running backs who the Vols are very high on.
With the Vols losing a lot of their receiving corps to graduation after the 2019 season (Marquez Callaway, Jauan Jennings, Brandon Johnson, Tyler Byrd), UT could use to add another wide receiver in their 2019 class if possible. If not, they’ll need to focus on that position a little heavier in the 2020 cycle.
Assuming he’s healthy and remains so, Jerrod Means should provide some speed at the position, but he probably won’t play a lot for the Vols in 2019. Ramel Keyton should find some playing time as a true freshman, but he likely won’t see a ton of it either with Callaway, Jennings, and Josh Palmer all ahead of him. Not only that, but Cedric Tillman got to redshirt and learn last season as a freshman, and Jordan Murphy showed plenty of potential as a sophomore.
