Though he committed to Minnesota, in-state defensive tackle Kristian Williams didn’t sign with the Golden Gophers during the early signing period. In fact, he was the only one of Minnesota’s commits not to sign with them during the December signing period.

That leaves the door open for Tennessee, and UT’s coaches are very likely to step through that door.

Williams wants to take some visits and check around the college scene before he signs. Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck seemed very confident that Williams would still end up signing with the Golden Gophers, but it looks like they’ll be in a battle till the end to keep him.

The Vols haven’t really seemed to push very hard for the Memphis defensive tackle, and he hasn’t visited campus since June. But there’s a very good chance Tennessee will try to get him to take a visit in January. Williams has used three of his five official visits already, visiting Indiana, Minnesota, and Missouri. Even if he doesn’t use an official visit to see Tennessee, he can still come in unofficially since Memphis is only about six hours away from Knoxville.

Williams is rated as the No. 369 overall player in the 2019 class, No. 27 defensive tackle, and No. 12 player in the state of Tennessee.
