2. Eric Gray, RB
Tennessee has been trending positively for in-state star running back Eric Gray for a while. And they have to really like where they sit with the four-star back from Memphis heading into his announcement on Thursday.
Gray, who plays for Lausanne Collegiate School in Memphis, was committed to Michigan for several months before he announce his decommitment from the Wolverines on December 1st, the same day he took an unofficial visit to Knoxville. He then came back to Tennessee this past weekend on another unofficial visit, marking the fifth time since September that he visited the Vols. He also took an official visit to South Carolina last weekend, but it’s clear all the momentum is with Tennessee right now.
The 5-foot-10, 193-pound back became the first player in Tennessee history to win three-straight Mr. Football awards after winning it again this year. Gray finished a yards shy of running for 2,500 yards in 12 games this season, scoring 40 rushing touchdowns and adding a receiving score as well. He’s at or near the top in Tennessee high school history for career rushing yards (8,187 yards), rushing touchdowns (124), and career rushing attempts (863).
Gray is the No. 171 overall player and No. 4 all-purpose running back in the 2019 class per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
