Pros: Not only does McClendon have a ton of SEC experience and has called plays in the SEC East, but he and Pruitt coached together at Georgia when Pruitt was there in 2014 and 2015. McClendon was the associate head coach, receivers coach, and recruiting coordinator in 2015 and was the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator in 2014. McClendon was even made the interim head coach for Georgia’s bowl game in 2015. McClendon has ties to Pruitt, and he may be a legit candidate.
Cons/Questions: South Carolina’s offense has had some success, but they haven’t exactly lit the world on fire either. They were very turnover-prone this past season, and they struggled the most when they faced better defenses. Plus, he only has a few years of actual play-calling experience. While he may be a legit candidate, his name hasn’t been brought up time and again like the rest of the coaches on this list. But Pruitt does have a relationship with McClendon.
