Wide Receivers/Tight Ends

Marquez Callaway receives an “A+” from me, and Jauan Jennings had an impressive 41-yard grab. But otherwise, the receivers didn’t get to do very much thanks to poor offensive line play and a lack of effective quarterback production. It wasn’t necessarily the pass catchers’ fault they weren’t involved more; several passes just sailed over their heads or weren’t on target. But Josh Palmer didn’t help out Guarantano early on in the game on a deep route, and Dominick Wood-Anderson dropped a pass (though it was hard to catch anyway).

Yet another game in which the wide receivers’ production was hampered by quarterback and offensive linemen play. With Guarantano out, Chryst missed several throws to open Tennessee receivers. The only real drop I can remember came when a leaping Dominick Wood-Anderson allowed the football to bounce off his hands, but even that pass was high and hard to haul in. Marquez Callaway once again showed that he’s on the verge of a long NFL career, as he hauled in two tremendous passes on deep balls.

My only other gripe is for Josh Palmer, who on Guarantano’s first deep shot down field, took forever to make a move on the Mizzou defensive back and as a result, didn’t get down field quick enough. Because of that, Guarantano overthrew Palmer. With such little protection, No. 84 has to do a better job of helping out his quarterback.
