Nathanael: Vols Earn at Least a No. 2 Seed in NCAA Tournament
The Vols have earned a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament twice in program history. Bruce Pearl helped lead Tennessee to a two-seed in the 2006 tournament and again in the 2008 tournament. This year, I think the Vols can make it a three-peat for that achievement.
Last season, Tennessee earned their first No. 3 seed in school history, and I think this year you’ll see them do one better and get a No. 2 seed. There’s even a chance they could get the first No. 1 seed in program history, but I don’t think I’ll go quite as bold and predict that.
I do, however, think the Vols can get a two-seed again.
The Vols have one of the toughest schedules in college basketball this season, and they have the depth and quality of play to take down a lot of those opponents. That schedule and the depth of the SEC will have this team tested and ready for March, and I think their resume will look better than almost any other team in the country.
If Tennessee takes care of business, they could end up with only 4-7 losses when it’s time for the committee to make their picks for the NCAA Tournament. And with the quality of opponents the Vols will have played and the wins they’ll have accrued, I think they’ll get that two-seed.
