Tennessee trailed Alabama 42-14 at halftime of Saturday’s match-up. And Jeremy Pruitt had a blunt and honest remark about his football team at halftime.
According to Austin Nivison of 247Sports, Pruitt was asked about his team at halftime of the annual rivalry game, and he said Tennessee won’t be able to slow down Alabama’s progress until he and his staff can start recruiting more players and get them on the roster.
“We’re not gonna slow them down until we get another recruiting cycle, I can tell you that,” Pruitt said to the Vol Network at halftime.
The Vols gave up 28 points and 217 yards of offense to Alabama in the first quarter while Tennessee’s offense put up just six yards of offense on 17 plays. Tennessee found some offense in the second quarter after Keller Chryst came in for an injured Jarrett Guarantano, and they managed 14 points and out-gained Alabama 163 yards to 134 yards in the quarter.
But Alabama held a 42-14 lead at the half thanks to their dominant first quarter of play.
The Vols currently have the No. 14 recruiting class in the 2019 recruiting cycle according to 247Sports. Tennessee’s 20 commits rank them sixth in the SEC by those rankings as well.
Alabama, meanwhile, currently has the No. 1 class overall and top class in the SEC in the 2019 cycle.
