Special Teams
Nathanael: B-
Tennessee once again had a turnover on special teams. If not for that, the Vols’ third phase of the game actually would’ve fared pretty well. But Shawn Shamburger’s fumble to start the second half of play killed any chance Tennessee had of making a comeback by completely taking the wind out of UT’s sails. Brent Cimaglia remains perfect on the season after hitting both of his field goal attempts, and Joe Doyle did a good job of flipping field position and also making sure Freddie Swain wasn’t able to make any returns.
Ben: C+
I give the group a C+ because turnovers likely swing the direction of a football game, and it did on Saturday. Tennessee still had a chance of making it a game when Shawn Shamburger fumbled the opening kickoff, but Florida scored on the very next play and it was over from that point. Brent Cimaglia looked good, making both of his field goal attempts. Joe Doyle did a nice job of averaging 44.0 yards per punt while Tennessee’s punt coverage did a phenomenal job of containing Freddie Swain.
