Quarterback

The only reason I’m not giving the quarterbacks an “F” here is because their performance wasn’t all on them, especially Jarrett Guarantano. I thought he made some decent throws when he had time, but he didn’t often have time. He’s a tough kid, I’ll give him that. But I said this season that I’d been impressed with him to start, but that his performance in the SEC would tell me more. And yes, he was harassed a lot tonight and took some shots, but he still didn’t make the right reads in certain situations and didn’t help his team get many points on the board. Keller Chryst was ineffective when he came into the game as well. Guarantano had three turnovers, and Chryst had one.

One of my reasons for picking Tennessee to beat Florida was because of the way Jarrett Guarantano had played through three games to start the season. Guarantano had yet to turn the football over, and I thought he had real potential to have a breakout game. But because of the offensive line play, he was unable to. Guarantano was 7-of-18 for 164 yards and two interceptions. One interception was not his fault, but the other one was. He still had zero protection on the second one, though. I don’t know if there is a quarterback in the country that would look good behind Tennessee’s offensive line.
