Wide Receivers/Tight Ends
The wide receivers continue to impress, as they didn’t drop a single pass for the second straight game while showing off their ability to make plays on 50/50 balls. Marquez Callaway proved why he’s the No. 1 receiver, hauling in five passes for 78 yards. Jordan Murphy caught his first touchdown, and Josh Palmer displayed his play-making ability on a jet-sweep for a touchdown and a big catch on a 50/50 ball. Going forward, though, I’d like to see offensive coordinator Tyson Helton figure out a way to get Jauan Jennings the ball more.
Brian Niedermeyer’s tight ends didn’t make many plays in the passing game, only hauling in one reception. But Dominick Wood-Anderson took a huge step forward along the line. After struggling to block against West Virginia, Wood-Anderson had several key blocks to seal off the edge and spark a big rush. The JUCO transfer had 26 “positive” blocks to just three “negative” blocks. Latrell Bumphus also showed his physicality along the line of scrimmage, generating 10 positive blocks to three negative blocks. Eli Wolf had 10 positive blocks to three negative blocks as well.
