Though he didn’t appear much until late in the game, Jeremy Banks got six touches in the Vols’ opener against West Virginia. He carried the ball five times for 11 yards and had an impressive 10-yard catch as well.

But that was only a taste for the true freshman. He should see plenty more playing time in the next two weeks.

The Vols should be able to handle ETSU and UTEP easily, which means Tennessee’s starting running backs should see their touches limited to keep them as fresh and healthy as possible for the SEC schedule. That should give Banks ample opportunity to flex his muscles and show he can handle a bigger workload.

Tennessee already has a solid trio of backs in Tim Jordan, Ty Chandler, and Madre London. But injuries can happen at any time, and Chandler himself got knocked out of the West Virginia game. Banks needs to develop some rhythm with the offense and show he can be counted on just in case anything like that happens again.
