Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt’s debut didn’t go as planned. And he had plenty to say about the Vols’ 40-14 loss to No. 17 West Virginia after the game.
Pruitt became the first Tennessee head coach to lose his debut as UT’s head man since Johnny Majors in 1977. Majors’ first Tennessee team lost 27-17 to Cal to begin his tenure. Majors would end up coaching the Vols for 185 games after that first loss, however. Pruitt and Vol fans would like it if he could follow in Majors’ footsteps in that regard.
But that’s far in the future. On Saturday night, the focus was all on what Tennessee did on the field during the afternoon, and Pruitt discussed his team’s effort against the Mountaineers.
Pruitt talked about the freshmen who played in the secondary, the Vols’ offensive line, Jarrett Guarantano’s performance, his debut as a coach, and much more.
