Right now, two of the Vols’ 2018 signees aren’t on campus and are the only newcomers who aren’t enrolled in classes for the summer. The Vols’ highest-rated player in the class, J.J. Peterson, is expected to enroll in July, but Brant Lawless’ status is more up in the air. He may or may not join Tennessee for the 2018 season.

The rest of the newcomers from the 2018 class are a mix of developmental players and potential impact freshmen. Bryce Thompson should find a role at least on special teams and could make contributions at either cornerback or receiver depending on where he fits in better. Jeremy Banks likely won’t be expected to contribute much as a running back in his first year, but he has a lot of potential. The defensive line has several intriguing players who should be able to learn and grow this year in Mincey, Garland, and Harris.

Trevon Flowers is an intriguing prospect, as is Brandon Davis. Both were low three-stars coming out of high school, and both focused a lot on baseball in high school and didn’t attend camps for football like their peers. It remains to be seen how much either of them contribute as true freshmen, but they have potential down the line. Cedric Tillman is another intriguing player at wide receiver.

J.T. Shrout should be able to redshirt this season and learn the nuances of the quarterback position. The same goes for Tanner Antonutti along the offensive line.
