5. Madre London, RB
Rising sophomore Ty Chandler is expected to be the Vols’ starting running back this season. His blend of speed, elusiveness, and deceptive power make him an intriguing option in any offensive style. But he needs a complementary back as his backup, and Madre London promises to provide just that.
London is a grad transfer from Michigan State, and if he can stay healthy, he should be a very solid No. 2 running back for the Vols this season. He started out well with the Spartans as a true freshman, rushing for 500 yards and three touchdowns on 119 carries. But injuries and getting passed on the depth chart by more talented backs saw his production dwindle over the next two years, and he only totaled 424 yards and five scores on 111 carries in 2016 and 2017 combined.
There’s a chance that London could come in and unseat Chandler as the starter, but it’s more likely that he’s Tennessee’s second option in the run game and will be a good mentor to the Vols’ young running backs.
