Another intriguing late addition to Tennessee’s 2018 class, John Mincey was a bit of a surprise add for the Vols. South Carolina looked like the favorite to land the versatile defensive lineman for a while after he decommitted from Arkansas in January, but Tennessee’s new coaching staff swept in late and nabbed the versatile defensive lineman from Georgia.

The Vols’ depth along the defensive line isn’t bad, and Mincey isn’t quite ready physically to contribute as a true freshman. His versatility also makes it difficult to figure out where to play him just yet. He could add more weight and move inside to tackle, or he could focus on getting more toned and lean and stay on the outside as an end. Tennessee’s coaches could try him at both positions in some games this year to see how his technique holds up at the collegiate level and see where he fits better and still redshirt him to use this as a developmental year.
