Jacob Warren, TE
The Vols should be in more multiple tight end sets this year than they have over the last five years, but they don’t exactly have the depth to pull that off like Tyson Helton and the offensive staff would like. But incoming freshman Jacob Warren should be able to use this season as a developmental year despite the lack of proven depth.
Warren drew attention at Farragut High School in Knoxville for some of his spectacular catches and overall athleticism. At 6-foot-6, Warren has the frame that all coaches want in a tight end. But at just 211 pounds coming out of high school, he’s a long way from being big enough to hold up as a tight end in the SEC. But his pass catching ability makes him an intriguing option even before he gets big enough to be effective as a blocker. Expect to see him appear in some of Tennessee’s games against smaller schools so coaches can see what he brings to the table, but he’s not quite ready to be a big contributor yet.
