3. Eli Wolf, TE
Though most are penciling in JUCO transfer Dominick Wood-Anderson into the Vol’s No. 1 tight end spot, Tennessee is likely to play a lot more two tight end sets on offense this season. And the odds-on favorite to be the No. 2 tight end is former walk-on Eli Wolf.
Eli’s older brother, Ethan, finished up his last season with Tennessee last year and put together a very solid career as a Vol. Eli joined the Vols as a walk-on as part of their 2015 class, but he was awarded a scholarship during fall camp before the beginning of last season.
In 15 career appearances, Wolf has just four catches for 56 yards. But he should be in line for a lot more work this season.
Even with Wood-Anderson likely getting the starting nod as the top tight end, Wolf figures to be the second tight end on the depth chart and will likely be on the field a decent amount himself. He has the potential to be a reliable pass catcher in the offense, and if he can gain a little more weight this summer, he could find more playing time even when the Vols are in obvious running situations.
