1. How will the QB Competition Develop?
The quarterback competition won’t be decided over the summer. But this offseason will be crucial for both Keller Chryst and Jarrett Guarantano as they prepare to take each other on this fall to try and win the starting job.
Guarantano showed progress both as a player and as a leader this spring. Chryst has the edge in experience over Guarantano, and he also has more experience playing in the type of offensive system that new offensive coordinator Tyson Helton wants to run. Both quarterbacks will need to use this summer to prepare themselves physically and mentally for what will come this fall. Developing a rapport with other offensive players, getting stronger, and learning the playbook will determine who is prepared when fall camp begins and who isn’t.
While neither player will take reps officially with UT this summer, it’s still a very, very important couple months for the quarterback battle.
